Outdoor First Aid
- 2 full days
- Assessment based
- Related to outdoors where assistance may take hours to respond
- Renewed every 3 years
International Mountain Leader (IML)
- 5 days summer training, 4 days summer assessment
- 5 days summer training, 5 days winter assessment
- Avalanche research and route planning
- Safe route choice and leading in snow covered terrain
- Understanding of the effects and medical conditions when at high altitude
- Safe anchors and belaying for ascent, descent and protecting against damaged fixed equipment
Winter Mountain Leader (WML)
- 6 days training, 5 days assessment
- Leading in all UK mountains with snow and ice
- Snow and avalanches
- Ice axe and crampon skills
- Security on steep ground
- Emergency snow shelters and holes
- Cold weather injuries
- Winter Weather
Mountain Leader (ML)
- 6 days training, 5 days assessment
- Leading in all UK mountains without snow or ice
- Group management
- Navigation

- Hazards and emergency procedures

Member Of
British Association of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML)
This requires the following to allow membership
- Professional indemnity insurance
- Outdoor first aid qualification, renewed every 3 years
- Regular Continuing Personal Development (CPD)
Mountain Training Association (MTA)
- This requires Continuing Personal Development through attendance at workshops
- As the MTA say ...
"CPD is the means by which members maintain, improve and broaden their knowledge and skills and develop the personal qualities required when using their awards. This process is vital whether working full time in the outdoors or using the awards in a voluntary capacity"
